This time, The New York Times gets into the action.
Sigh.
To be fair, the Times is more or less reblogging this.
Still, sigh…

In a previous post, I talked about a number of worthless, useless, gifts you don’t need.
Well, I jumped the gun, because today I have found a product that reaches new levels of worthlessness. A product so ridiculously redundant, and so ridiculously expensive for what it does, it can claim its spot at the top of my list.
The product?
The “Breville Variable-Temperature Kettle.”
What does it do?
IT BOILS WATER.
Let me repeat: IT BOILS WATER.
According to Williams-Sonoma, this product is needed whether “you’re making a pot of specialty tea or brewing coffee in a French press,” as it “heats the water to the precise temperature for extracting full flavor.”
Essential, of course, because you need different temperature settings for, according to Williams-Sonoma again, “green tea (175°F), white tea (185°F), oolong tea (195°F), French-press coffee (200°F) and black tea (212°F).”
ZOMG!!!
I had no idea making my green tea with 185 degree water WOULD RUIN IT COMPLETELY.
The price?
150 bucks.
Really. To boil water.
